When you are 26 weeks pregnant, you are in the second trimester of the pregnancy and almost at the third trimester stage. By this time, you are noticeably pregnant and your normal clothes no longer fit properly. Your stomach is starting to protrude and you may even be having slight contractions in your uterus. These contractions are called Braxton-Hicks contractions, sometimes referred to as false labor, but you are nowhere near going into labor yet. You probably don’t even notice the contractions unless you are sitting or lying down and are feeling relaxed.

Some of the other sensations that accompany this stage of the pregnancy include:

* Heartburn when you eat certain foods or you eat late at night

* Weight gain

* Cramps as your muscles start to stretch

You will likely feel an uncomfortable sensation under your ribs or you may have some pain. This is because at this stage the uterus is about 2.5 inches above your belly button.

You will be seeing your doctor on a regular basis every month. At this time, you may have to have an anti-tetanus shot or another vaccine. The doctor may also request another ultrasound just to see how the baby is progressing. You will also need to have blood tests to determine whether you have prenatal diabetes or to determine if there are any detectable genetic defects in the baby.

You will need to start relaxing more at 26 weeks. You can still engage in light workouts and you should continue to take walks on a regular basis. These activities will help prepare your body for labor and birth.

At 26 weeks into the pregnancy, the baby is about 9 or 10 inches long from the top of the head to the rump. It doesn’t include the length of the legs. At this stage the baby weighs about 2 pounds. Although the eyelids have been developed prior to this, it is now that the baby will start to open and shut the eyes. All babies have blue eyes when they are in the womb and will change when the baby is born. The baby may look skinny, but from now on it will start putting on layers of fat.

It is at 26 weeks that the fetus starts to look like a baby. The heart is completely developed and is pumping blood throughout the body and the baby starts to make breathing movements. The lungs have not fully developed yet, but they are well along in the process. The umbilical cord starts to thicken as it fills with the nutrients the growing baby needs from now on. Fingernails and toenails are evident by this time and if the baby is a boy, the testicles will start to move down.

By this stage of the pregnancy, you may feel bloated on times due to water retention. You may even start to notice stretch marks across your abdomen. There are very good creams on the market that will help with this by making the skin soft and supple as the stomach gradually expands.

When you are 31 weeks pregnant, you are into your last trimester of the pregnancy. While your body has already undergone tremendous changes, there are still changes yet to come. At this time you are starting to get impatient waiting for the baby to arrive. You may also experience moments of anxiety wondering about the baby ?if it is going to be healthy, if you have everything you need for the baby arrival and if you are going to be a good mother. These are normal emotions and thoughts that all expectant mothers have, so you shouldn be concerned. You may also start feeling apprehensive about the impending labour and birth.

During this time your baby needs more oxygen as the lungs are starting to develop and the baby is starting to breathe on its own. This means you need more iron from your food. Your diet should include a lot of dark green, leafy vegetables, dried fruits and nuts and lean, red meat. Drinking lots of water is also essential so that your organs have the fluids they need to function properly. When you drink at least eight glasses of water each day it will help to decrease the amount of fluid you retain. This is especially important if you notice that your hands and feet are swelling. The water will help to build new cells in your body and in the baby and improve the blood flow.

Because your belly is expanding, you may be feeling uncomfortable when you lie down at night or just to take a nap during the day. If you have a body pillow that you can wrap yourself around, this tends to reduce your discomfort. Don drink a lot of fluids just before bedtime because this will cause you to have to go to the bathroom several times during the night. You should also avoid caffeinated drinks that may keep you awake or cause you to have heartburn.

Your baby is starting to grow rapidly at this time and the internal organs are really starting to develop. You will experience more and more kicks and a lot of movement. At this time of the pregnancy, the baby usually weighs a little over three pounds and measures about fourteen inches long.

If you were to have a 3D ultrasound at this time, you would really be able to see the facial features of the baby and see it kicking its legs. The baby will likely be sucking its thumb. If you want to know whether you are having a boy or girl, this is the time when you can really see the sex organs on an ultrasound and know without a doubt the preparations you need to make for the clothing and the nursery.

It is important for you to get lots of rest and stay off your feet whenever possible. Morning sickness has passed and you have a renewed interest in going out with friends. However, you still have to watch what you eat so that you don have indigestion problems. The growing baby is putting more pressure on your kidneys and growing back. This means you may have backache and still have to make frequent trips to the bathroom.

If this is your first pregnancy, you are probably wondering what you can expect to feel like when you are 32 weeks pregnant. The baby has been kicking quite a bit lately and your belly has become larger. If you were to see your baby on an ultrasound at this stage, you will see that it is able to suck its thumb. Your visits to the doctor office will change from this week onwards. Up until now, your doctor wished to see you once a month, but after this visit you will have a two-week schedule for your visits. If you have any questions, you should start writing them down and bring them with you when you do see the doctor so that you can get as much information as possible.

When you lie down, you will be able to see the imprint of a tiny foot moving across your belly and you will actually feel the baby turning over. This is an exciting time in your pregnancy because the baby starts to become a real person. When you are asleep, you may be awakened suddenly by a sharp kick or movements ?quite often just under your ribs. The baby will start to have hiccups in the 32nd week, which you will feel as short jerky movements inside you. You can alleviate the discomfort that this causes by moving around or drinking a glass of water.

The baby will start to turn in the uterus so that its head is down towards the birth canal. It won start moving downwards just yet, but it will start getting in the right position for delivery. Since the baby is starting to put on a lot of weight, you will notice weight gain as well ?often as much as a pound or two per week. Within the next two months, the baby will double its current weight.

In the 32nd week, the baby is able to blink its eyes, look around, pee and use its hands to making grabbing motions. There may or may not be hair. According to old wives?tales, if you have experienced a lot of heartburn during your pregnancy, the baby will have lots of hair when it is born. The baby usually weighs about four pounds by this week and measures about 17 or 18 inches in length.

As the baby grows, you will have increased aches and pains in your stomach and lower back. This is due to the pressure the baby places on your kidneys and your muscles. The ligaments in your stomach, hips and buttocks are still stretching, which accounts for the pulling and stretching pains you feel in these areas. You may also experience slight contractions as the baby starts to move downward, but they are mild and do not last very long.

This is the time when you should start finalizing your plans for the baby arrival ?completing the nursery and starting to stock up on diapers, blankets, undershirts and sleepers.

The most common type of the sleep disorder is called as the Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. The Sleep disorder means termination of the breath. It is characterized through repetitive episodes of higher airway barrier that take place during the sleep, usually related with the reduction in the blood oxygen saturation. Within the other expressions, the airways become obstructed on several probable sites. The higher airway could be obstructed by the excess tissue inside the airway, bulky tonsils, and a large tongue and typically include the airway muscles comforting as well as collapsing when asleep. An additional site of impediment may be the nasal passageway. Occasionally the configuration of the jaw and the airway could be an aspect in the sleep disorder. The common symptoms of sleep disorder are excessive daytime sleepiness. Sometimes the patient might be ignorant of this symptom—generally the bed associate is particularly aware of this. The sleep disorder also causes trouble in proper breathing while sleeping. There are much of the associated features that may include: morning headaches, loud snoring, a dry mouth upon awakening, unreflecting sleep, high blood pressure, chest retraction throughout sleep in little children, overweight, depression, irritability, difficulty concentrating, change in personality, excessive perspiring during sleep, reduced libido, heartburn, frequent nocturnal urination, insomnia, nocturnal snorting, gasping, choking, restless sleep, confusion upon awakening, and rapid weight gain. Well one should also know how serious the sleep disorder is in humans. It is a potentially critical condition that requires instant checkup attention. The risk of undiagnosed disruptive sleep disorder includes strokes, heart attacks, impotence, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat and heart disease. In calculation, the obstructive sleep disorder causes daytime sleepiness that may result in lost productivity, accidents and interpersonal association problems. The harshness of the symptom might be moderate, mild or severe.

The sleep test, known as polysomnography is frequently done to diagnose the sleep disorder. There are two kinds of polysomnograms. The overnight polysomnography test involves the monitoring of the brain waves, eye movement, muscle tension, respiration, oxygen stage in the blood plus audio monitoring. The second type of polysomnography check is the home monitoring test. The Sleep Technologist keeps one up to every electrode as well as instructs one on how to proof ones sleep with the computerized polysomnograph which one takes home plus returns up in the morning. These were painless tests which are generally covered by the insurance. A number of people contain facial deformities which may cause the sleep disorder. It simply might be that their jawbone is minor than it should be otherwise they might have a smaller aperture at the reverse of the throat. Fixing a deviate septum might help to open up the nasal passages. Remove of the tonsils and polyps or adenoids might help also. The Children are more likely to contain their adenoids and tonsils removed.

Heartburn is a medical condition manifested in an uncomfortable sensation in the chest. This happens when acid goes back up into a person’s esophagus. Heartburn is often related to gastroesophageal reflux disease. There are a number of medical studies to pinpoint the causes and possible treatments for heartburn, but there is still no single solution for this ailment. As such, there have been a number of myths and fallacies behind this condition.

Most people believed that particular food or drinks could cause heartburn. This is not the case. Heartburn is caused by biological dysfunction. Of course having a good diet is always a good thing, but do not expect that heartburn will be gone in a snap if you change your lifestyle or the food you eat.

Excess acid is the main cause of heartburn. This statement is somehow incorrect. Studies show that individuals with heartburn have normal counts of acid in their stomach. Heartburn actually happens if acid has gone in the wrong direction as, it goes to the esophagus instead of into the stomach.

It is common knowledge that heartburn causes harm in one’s esophagus. Actually, heartburn caused by acid reflux could also increase the risk of asthma and chronic cough. It could also cause sore throat and discomfort in your throat and vocal cords.

Heartburn is not caused by stress. A lot of people blame stress for every ailment. Although there may some amount of truth to this, it is rare that stress is the main cause of heartburn. But it is advised not to go through a lot of physical stress that can cause ulcers that may in turn lead to heartburn.

Most people sit up during sleep to prevent heartburn attacks at night. There is no need as medical experts suggest that sleeping on one’s left side is the recommended position during sleeping time. This will allow acid to clear out faster in your esophagus. You can also sleep on a slightly high pillow as it allows the acid to stay in your stomach rather than being reverted back to the esophagus, which would consequently cause heartburn.

There is a solution to heartburn. When you drop by your doctor for advice, he would prescribe medication. There is also over the counter drugs that you can purchase to relieve the symptoms of heartburn. Medication coupled with proper diet and clean lifestyle would surely help you in dealing with heartburn.

Introduction to Health Care Management is a concise, reader-friendly, introductory healthcare management book that covers a wide variety of healthcare settings, from hospitals to nursing homes and clinics. Filled with examples to engage the reader’s imagination, the important issues in healthcare management, such as ethics, cost management, strategic planning and marketing, information technology, and human resources, are all thoroughly covered.

Health Care is nothing but – prevention, treatment, and management of common illness , diseases and ailments. In other words, it’s the preservation of mental and physical well-being through the various health care services provided by the medical, nursing, and allied health care providers.

Tips for preventing and controlling Heartburn (Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease)

1. Check your medicines: Avoid drugs, particularly painkillers that may contribute to heartburn.

2. Examine your diet: Avoid foods that seem to trigger heartburn like caffeine, chocolate, high-acid foods (such as citrus and tomato juices) and mint-flavored foods. Dairy foods can be triggers in people who are lactose-intolerant. Avoid fatty foods, especially animal fat. Also, it is a myth that carbonated drinks relieve heartburn. Just the opposite is true.

3. Exercise: A regular aerobic exercise program, even a brisk daily walk, helps many people with heartburn. It reduces stress and helps you lose weight. However, don’t exercise right after a meal.

4. Reduce Stress

Stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e., go back to number one above!, exercise is a great stress reducer, Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible.

5. Don’t Drink too Much Alcohol

Whilst it is true that a glass of wine or one drink a day (two for men) can help protect against heart disease, more alcohol than that, or binge drinking on a night out, can cause other serious health problems such as liver and kidney disease and cancer.

Caring for your baby at home …

* Most newborn babies spend most of their time sleeping and eating. You want to make sure that baby has a safe place to sleep and is put to sleep in a safe position.

* A safe crib will have slats no more than 2 3/8 inches apart and corner posts less than 5/8 inch high above the rails.

* Baby should sleep on a firm mattress that fits tightly in the crib, cradle or bassinet.

* Do not put pillows, comforters or other soft padded materials in the bed under the baby.

* Put healthy infants to sleep on their backs or sides.

Nutrition and food Safety Tips

1. Wash your hands with soap before you handle food and again after touching raw meat, fish or poultry.

2. When eating, always consider whether what you are about to eat will benefit your baby and try to avoid those foods that are low in nutrition value.

3. Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly.

Natural heartburn relief has been known as the best way to relieve heartburn. Not only free from side effect but also cost effective compared with over the counter acid reflux product costing hundreds of dollars. OTC heartburn medication can also make heartburn worse if you have an allergic with particular chemical ingredients.

Here are some natural heartburn relief methods that you can use at home to alleviate the symptoms.

1. Watch Your Foods

Eating particular foods such as fried and fatty food can worsen heartburn condition. It is best to avoid these foods during and after heartburn treatment. Also watch out for alcohol, as alcohol increases stomach acid, and aggravates your heartburn.

2. Soothing Tea

Drinking tea can relieve the symptom of heartburn. Any kind of tea will be fine, and I bet your grandmother has a family tea recipe that can relieve your heartburn fast, just ask her.

3. Peppermint

Peppermint also has an effect of relieving heartburn symptoms. It is available as a herbal tea or you can simply buy whole peppermint leaves and pour boiling water into a cup with a few peppermint leaves.

4. Rhubarb

Rhubarb is another popular ingredient used by native americans to cure various health problems associated with heartburn and indigestion. You can find it at your local grocery stores and chewing it right away.

5. Fennel

Fennel is also another natural heartburn relief that can help you cure heartburn effectively, you can make a soothing tea using fennel seeds. Other popular herbals you can use to cure heartburn are chamomile, meadowsweet, slippery elm, and cancer bush.

For the free side effect result, natural treatment is recommended to cure your heartburn rather than medical approach. The main cause of your heartburn can be quite simple; it is your unhealthy diet plan. Watch carefully how much you consume alcohol and fried and fatty foods that you eat regularly. Some examples of natural heartburn relief are soothing tea, peppermint, rhubarb, and fennel.

Symptoms

Almost everyone has occasional heartburn. But if these symptoms occur two or more days a week for at least three months, you may have acid reflux. Acid reflux occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter, the valve separating the esophagus and stomach, does not close properly, allowing acid to back up into the esophagus.

Heartburn is in most cases harmless, even if you are not comfortable with it. It is common during pregnancy and is not dangerous.

Many also get a feeling of sickness, have a hollow feeling in the stomach and diffuse pain in the stomach or the chest combined with the heartburn. The acid reflux may cause you to cough during nighttime.

If the heartburn comes back often and you wake up with acid refluxes you should see this as a warning signal. You should watch your habits, for example what and how often you eat and drink.

Pregnancy and heartburn

It is common with heartburn during pregnancy, do not worry. Some day it´s more, other days less. The reason for heartburn during pregnancy is that the pregnancy hormones make the uterus softer and easier to stretch out. The stomach, the upper part of the stomach, and the bowels are effected in the same way.

Acidity of the stomach can then come up in esophagus and cause heartburn. When uterus grows it will also push on the stomach. If you have serious problems, talk to your midwife.

What can You do – Prevention Avoid bigger meals and much drinking late on the evening. Avoid strong, spicy food and also fat food. Quit smoking and be cautious with alcohol. Try to avoid stress. Eat on specific times and add something between meals. Check your coffee- and tee-drinking. Try to avoid heavy lifting and forward bending.

Medical examinations

If your doctor suspects that your problems are caused by a disease your doctor will do an endoscopy which can be performed in a hospital or the doctor´s office. The doctor will spray your throat to numb it and slide down a thin, flexible plastic tube, the endoscope. A tiny camera in the endoscope allows the doctor to see the surface of the esophagus and to search for abnormalities. With the endoscope one can also take a specimen.

Treatment

Some treatment is easy to say but perhaps not so easy to stick to. – raise the head of your bed by six inches to allow gravity to help keep the stomach’s contents in the stomach – eat meals at least three to four hours before lying down and avoid bedtime snacks – eat smaller meals – limit your consumption of fat foods, chocolate, peppermint, coffee, tea, colas, and alcohol and also, avoid tomatoes and citrus fruits or juices, which contribute additional acid that can irritate the esophagus – quit smoking – wear loose belts and clothing – try to find your own way to raise your pH. Milk is good for some but not proved to work for everyone.

Your doctor may recommend over-the-counter antacids, which you can buy without a prescription. The doctor can also prescribe medications that stop acid production or help the muscles that empty your stomach.

Surgery is also an option when medicine and lifestyle changes do not work. It may also be a reasonable alternative to a lifetime of drugs and discomfort.

There are two trends of thought on how to stop heartburn. The first trend is to for you to go on the offensive, in other words, stop heartburn before it starts! Naturally the second trend will be the other end of the see-saw, where the answer isn’t as cut and dried, but the question, “How to stop heartburn?” is.

If we start with how to stop heartburn before it begins, then we go to the more preventative side of medicine, where good habits replace bad, and common sense overtakes us at just the right time.

However, since we are only human, most us posses within ourselves one gigantic flaw. We don’t see what’s under our noses. Yes, that’s right. If scientists were able to go back in time and bring back a woolly mammoth, and place it right in front of you, chances are that you wouldn’t even notice until it was standing right on top of. And even then some people just refuse to admit that there is a woolly mammoth standing on them.

Well, heartburn is the woolly mammoth, scientists are scientists – that doesn’t mean that they can bring back a woolly mammoth, at least not yet – and you are, well, basically you. There’s a good chance you don’t even realise that you’re suffering from heartburn, and need to know how to stop heartburn.

Either way, whether you’re on the offensive to stop heartburn, or the defensive, there a few things you can do and they all come under the heading “How to stop Heartburn”.

You’ve probably heard all of this before a hundred times and more, but constant repetition is the best way to learn something, and if you want to learn how to stop heartburn, this is probably the easiest way.

So, to recap, in blissfully short sentences what you’ve already heard: Don’t wear tight clothing, especially after a meal. Stay away from the booze, and stop heading to those cordoned off smoking areas to get your daily fix. No heavy meals. Don’t sleep immediately after a meal. Sleep on your left side if you are going to sleep anyway. Try your hardest not exercise after a meal. Avoid such pleasure inducing foods and drinks like, orange juice, lemon tea, coffee, milk, cheese, and generally anything else on the same trend. If you suffer from headaches, don’t take any form of aspirin, find something else. And if you want a good night’s sleep, then sleep in an uncomfortable half reclining position, where your head is at a higher level than your stomach.

The last one only applies to sufferers of nighttime heartburn, and isn’t necessarily a way to stop heartburn. It’s just fun to mention it and hear the moans of disbelief that reverberate through the room!

So now that you’re generally armed with the short but sweet version of “How to stop Heartburn”, I suggest that you get cracking and see about donating your stores of liquor to a more worthy being.
