    A large number of people experience heartburn and the more serious condition gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD) everyday. And studies show that night-time heartburn affects nearly 4 out of 5 of heartburn sufferers disturbing sleep and damaging their ability to function the following day.

    If you are one of these people, find nighttime heartburn relief with these simple tips given below.



    Avert heartburn by limiting acidic foods, like grapefruit, oranges, tomatoes or vinegar





    Spicy foods give you heartburn so cut down pepper or chilies.





    Don’t lie down for 2 to 3 hours after you eat. When you are sitting upright, gravity aids drain food and stomach acid into your stomach and intestines.





    Enjoy lean meats and non – fatty foods. Greasy foods (like French fries and cheeseburgers) can trigger heartburn instantly.





    Cut back on stuff like chocolate, mint, citrus, tomatoes, pepper, vinegar, catsup and mustard.





    Avoid drinks that can activate reflux, like alcohol, drinks with caffeine and carbonated drinks.





    Eat smaller meals and you may avert activating GERD symptoms.





    Alcohol can relax the esophageal sphincter, worsening GERD, so avoid it.





    Don’t eat too quickly.





    Avoid snacking at bedtime. Eating close to bedtime can set off heartburn symptoms.





    Eat meals 2 to 3 hours before sleep.
