When you are 31 weeks pregnant, you are into your last trimester of the pregnancy. While your body has already undergone tremendous changes, there are still changes yet to come. At this time you are starting to get impatient waiting for the baby to arrive. You may also experience moments of anxiety wondering about the baby ?if it is going to be healthy, if you have everything you need for the baby arrival and if you are going to be a good mother. These are normal emotions and thoughts that all expectant mothers have, so you shouldn be concerned. You may also start feeling apprehensive about the impending labour and birth.

During this time your baby needs more oxygen as the lungs are starting to develop and the baby is starting to breathe on its own. This means you need more iron from your food. Your diet should include a lot of dark green, leafy vegetables, dried fruits and nuts and lean, red meat. Drinking lots of water is also essential so that your organs have the fluids they need to function properly. When you drink at least eight glasses of water each day it will help to decrease the amount of fluid you retain. This is especially important if you notice that your hands and feet are swelling. The water will help to build new cells in your body and in the baby and improve the blood flow.

Because your belly is expanding, you may be feeling uncomfortable when you lie down at night or just to take a nap during the day. If you have a body pillow that you can wrap yourself around, this tends to reduce your discomfort. Don drink a lot of fluids just before bedtime because this will cause you to have to go to the bathroom several times during the night. You should also avoid caffeinated drinks that may keep you awake or cause you to have heartburn.

Your baby is starting to grow rapidly at this time and the internal organs are really starting to develop. You will experience more and more kicks and a lot of movement. At this time of the pregnancy, the baby usually weighs a little over three pounds and measures about fourteen inches long.

If you were to have a 3D ultrasound at this time, you would really be able to see the facial features of the baby and see it kicking its legs. The baby will likely be sucking its thumb. If you want to know whether you are having a boy or girl, this is the time when you can really see the sex organs on an ultrasound and know without a doubt the preparations you need to make for the clothing and the nursery.

It is important for you to get lots of rest and stay off your feet whenever possible. Morning sickness has passed and you have a renewed interest in going out with friends. However, you still have to watch what you eat so that you don have indigestion problems. The growing baby is putting more pressure on your kidneys and growing back. This means you may have backache and still have to make frequent trips to the bathroom.

I’m sure that most of you would agree that in today’s world, where we have to rush from one situation to the other, getting a properly balanced diet is somewhat impossible, and often beyond the scope of our capabilities. This can be due to many things, like insufficient time to cook a meal, insufficient restaurants around to even pop out and eat a good meal, or you’re tied down to your desk, or a multitude of other equally good reasons. If you think about it however, I’m also sure that you would agree that this is probably the leading cause for the poor digestion suffered by many people around the world today.

Bloating, constipation, and gas are a few of the more common symptoms of poor digestion. Abdominal cramping, chronic fatigue, premature aging, joint and muscle pain, arthritis, and nausea are a few more symptoms induced by poor digestion, from a list that can go on and on, and on.

If you suffer from poor digestion, you could be having one or all of these conditions and not even realize it. And from there it will just start to snowball, as you experience more discomfort, more pain, and finally succumb to a much worse condition than poor digestion.

It has been said, that poor digestion is akin to poor nutrition, where with poor digestion you might be getting the proper nutrients into your body, but your system isn’t able to absorb it. There are many contributing factors to a poor digestive system, but it has been found that processed foods can be one of the biggest factors.

And no wonder, really with the amount of ready to eat meals, and fast foods that are out there on the market, beckoning to us eagerly when we’re at most vulnerable, (read ‘irritable, tired, and hungry’ into that last sentence.)

So how do we stop poor digestion? Ideally it should be easy to stop poor digestion, and correct it so your digestive system is working again properly right? Unfortunately, this is not always true, and for some people an extensive course of medication may be required before they can fully cure their poor digestion problems.

The best course that you can take would be to consult your doctor on how to remedy your condition. Just remember that you will need to remedy it. Poor digestion takes a lot out of your body, and makes it weak, leaving it more prone to attacks from other sources.

Missing vital nutrients due to lack of proper digestion can harm your body more than you realize. So just pick up that phone, and talk to your doctor straight away. Self-diagnosis isn’t always right, and it’s always better to have a professional opinion to back you up. Listen to your body, it’s the greatest gift you could ever have, and it might just be trying to talk to you, don’t ignore it.

While pregnancy can be a very exciting time for you, full of anticipation and planning, it sometimes seems that your body is just not cooperating, and seems to cause trouble at every turn. It is unfortunate, but just about every pregnant woman will experience a variety of uncomfortable changes in her body. On the bright side, you are not alone in this, and the fact that many of these complaints are so common means that there is probably a remedy that works for you.

One of the more common problems you will face as a pregnant woman is stomach discomfort during pregnancy, generally speaking. During pregnancy, your body produces a great deal of the hormone progesterone, and this can lead to several specific problems, like heartburn and constipation. Nearly 80 percent of all pregnant women also experience morning sickness, which manifests itself through nausea and vomiting, usually in the early part of the day. You might also experience a stomach ache during pregnancy that could be as mild as a very dull pain, or as sharp as severe abdominal cramping.

Some stomach discomfort during pregnancy is the result of massive hormonal changes in your body chemistry. Everything is different. The food you normally eat will no longer be digested in quite the same way. Morning sickness is common in the first trimester, but sometimes it lasts the entire pregnancy. Heartburn and constipation may be factors as well. Most of these conditions can be controlled or prevented through a few small changes in your diet and routine. Having a stomach ache during pregnancy is fairly normal, and fortunately it is a temporary situation.

Some other problems you may experience are swelling of the feet and ankles, extreme fatigue, and back pain. Some women complain of itchy skin as well. Some stomach discomfort during pregnancy occurs simply because the skin is stretching out so far to accommodate your growing baby. This can lead to some itchiness, which is easily remedied with a mild cream. Swelling can be managed by elevating the affected areas frequently and by drinking a lot of water. Try to schedule regular naps and get plenty of sleep at night. Back pain can be controlled to an extent, simply by never sitting or standing for too long.

Like most of the common discomforts, a stomach ache during pregnancy is to be expected at times. You can be sure your doctor will be familiar with all of these conditions and will be able to advise how to best treat them. Fatigue, swelling, back pain and stomach discomfort during pregnancy are extremely common and can usually be dealt with using a host of simple remedies.

Don’t be afraid to ask your doctor for advice, but be aware that other women who have already experienced pregnancy can be great sources of information as well. It’s almost a guarantee that all of them have experienced some form of stomach discomfort during pregnancy, along with at least a few of the other problems, and can probably give you some great advice.

Now you are carrying your baby. Congratulations!

There are some women who experience a number of health problems during their pregnancy. You will read them along with the solutions in three parts of articles. Enjoy the reading!

1. Morning Sickness

Morning sickness refers to nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP). It occurs probably due to higher hormonal levels, higher odor sensitivity and certain physiological changes in the pregnant woman’s body

Solutions

•Eat smaller meals frequently (every 2 to 3 hours) instead of three big meals in a day.

•Avoid unpleasant or strong odors.

•Try eating bland foodstuffs such as dry toasts or saltine crackers.

•In some women, taking vitamin B6 supplements alleviates morning sickness.

•Cut down the intake of fatty food, as they take long to digest so they stay longer in stomach.

•Try taking ginger ale (ensure it has real ginger) or make your own ginger tea by grating and boiling some ginger in water.

•Some women feel a relief on morning sickness by acupressure wristbands, commonly available with drugstores.

•Avoid lying down soon after meals.

If the symptoms are too much unbearable, talk to your healthcare provider, he/she will prescribe you an effective and safe medicine to prevent nausea and vomiting.

2. Fatigue

Fatigue commonly occurs during pregnancy, especially at the early and late stages of pregnancy.

Pregnancy strains your whole body and makes you feel extremely tired. Your body undergoes various changes to sustain your pregnancy, particularly the hormonal changes, causing you to feel lethargic. Lack of adequate night sleep and exhaustion because of repeated vomiting and nausea also adds to tiredness. Furthermore, you might also be worried about pregnancy, which could be wearing.

Solutions

•Get 9-10 hours sleep everyday. In between work, taking 15-20 minutes catnaps also makes a big difference so whenever you get the opportunity, use a vacant lounge, office desk or empty conference room and get a nap.

•Take healthy, nutritious diet consisting of fruits, vegetables, lean meats, skim milk, whole grains to energize you. Drink a lot of water to keep yourself hydrated.

•Engage in moderate physical activity like walking.

•Stretch your body frequently and breathe deeply.

•If possible, try regulating your schedule. Spare some work for the weekend and arrange to work at home so that you can leave your office early.

3. Frequent urination

Frequent urges to urinate is very common during early pregnancy, with some relief in second trimester.

During pregnancy, there is a considerable increase in blood volume so a lot of extra fluid is processed through your kidneys, which is eventually sent to the bladder. The increasing size of uterus also exerts a pressure on your bladder, leading to an urge to urinate.

During second trimester, the feeling might reduce because your uterus will grow and rise higher in the abdomen. However, as you approach the delivery, the baby will drop lower into the pelvis, bringing back frequent urination urges again.

Solutions

•Avoid diuretics such as tea, coffee and alcohol (alcohol is to be avoided during pregnancy anyway).

•To avoid nighttime urination (as it may disturb your sleep), cut down the amount of fluid intake after 4 pm. However, you should compensate this by taking in plenty of fluids during daytime.

•While you urinate, lean forward so that your bladder empties completely and the next urination is delayed.

Talk to your healthcare provider if you feel pain or get a burning sensation while you pee, or if the color and odor of urine changes.

4. Constipation

The major reason for constipation during pregnancy is the hormonal changes, which slows down the digestion of food by slowing down the movement of intestines.

Progesterone, the major hormone of pregnancy, is maintained at a high level throughout the pregnancy. This hormone is a muscle relaxant. Consequently, it slows down (or relaxes) the bowel (which is actually made of muscles) movements as well so the food that you eat moves slowly and waste accumulate in your body. Increasing amount of pressure from growing uterus on rectum also causes constipation. Iron supplements too add to constipation.

Solutions

•Take a diet rich in fiber. Fiber remains undigested and absorbs water, both leading to increase in bulk of feces. Consequently, there is a push on intestines to work more. Fiber rich food include vegetables (celery, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, cucumber, cabbage, tomato, pea, turnip, carrots, radishes); fruits (like orange, apples, pears, prunes); breakfast cereals; whole wheat bread.

•Drink plenty of fluids. Fluids make feces soft, preventing constipation.

•Moderate exercises like walking and swimming also stimulates the bowel movement.

5. Heartburn

Many women get heartburn during pregnancy. Although it is harmless, it can be painful and scary. You experience a burning sensation extending from base of your breastbone towards your throat.

Heartburn occurs during pregnancy because of increased progesterone levels, which has a relaxing action on muscles. Consequently, it relaxes the valve separating stomach from esophagus (food pipe) as well so that the acids in your stomach seep backward into your esophagus. During later pregnancy, as the size of your baby increases, it occupies most of the space in abdominal cavity, pushing the stomach. This also leads to heartburns.

Solutions

•Do not take foodstuffs that cause gastric discomforts, e.g., carbonated beverages; caffeine; acidic foods (citrus fruits, vinegar and tomato); spicy and highly seasoned food; chocolate; processed meats; fried or fatty foods.

•Do not take large amounts of fluids with meals. Instead, take them in between your meals.

•Avoid taking big meals. Eat small amounts but frequently (every 2 – 3 hours). Eat slowly, chewing the food properly.

•Avoid eating anything at least 3 hours before you sleep.

•Avoid bending your waist and instead bend your knees.

•Try sleeping in propped up position, resting on several pillows so that your head is elevated.

•Get yourself an anta acid, after consultation to your doctor.

Almost every pregnant woman suffers from morning sickness. There are many factors that can trigger this type of sickness. Anything from unusual house odors to the meals which we eat can have an effect on our morning nausea. So what are some of the things that we can do in order to relive some of the symptoms of morning sickness?

First and most important, it is important to speak with your doctor regarding any morning sickness and the action which you are planning to take against it. Some natural remedies which aid in lessening symptoms include taking naps, getting out of bed slowly, eating dry cereal or crackers before getting out of bed in the morning, avoiding unsettling odors, and avoiding warm places. Avoiding warm places is beneficial because heat tends to increase nausea. Also remember to listen to your body. If your body needs a nap, you should go ahead and take one. Same goes for food cravings. If your body is craving something then you should by all means follow through with the craving. Your body knows what it wants and it will not steer you wrong.

Some other diet tips include avoiding foods that are spicy and greasy as these foods increase nausea and heartburn. Also try to eat smaller meals every two hours or so and avoid drinking fluids with your meals. If you happen to experience nausea in spite of your attempt to avoid the triggering factors, try to make yourself a cup of decaffeinated peppermint tea. This type of a tea, as well as ginger tea, has been known to reduce nausea. So if you are suffering from morning sickness, try applying some of these tips into your daily routine in order to relive some of the nausea.

Heartburn is described as a burning feeling that stretches from the bottom of the breast bone up to the lower throat. It is commonly caused by overeating or the consumption of a food that does not agree with the body.

Heartburn is often a common condition among many pregnant women, caused by the hormonal and physical body changes. Heartburn among pregnant women usually begins somewhere during the first trimester and typically worsens during the second and third trimesters.

Just like acid reflux, heartburn during pregnancy is caused by stomach acids sneaking out of the stomach past the valve that is supposed to keep it there.

The stomach fluids rise up the esophagus causing pain and discomfort. Unlike acid reflux, the valve is not simply faulty; it has been relaxed by hormones produced due to the pregnancy. The particular hormone is called progesterone and it also relaxes the muscles of the uterus. During digestion your esophagus and intestines make wavelike contractions.

The progesterone slows those contractions, which results in sluggish digestion. Then later during the pregnancy, as the baby gets bigger, the abdominal cavity gets crowded and pushes the stomach acids back up into the esophagus. This condition usually continues until the baby is born.

Although there is nothing that can be done to cure the condition, it is possible to ease the symptoms. The following tips are good things to add to your lifestyle even beyond pregnancy because they promote good health and help prevent other non pregnancy related digestive issues.

Don’t eat late at night or close to bedtime.

Avoid greasy or spicy foods, as well as anything with chocolate, peppermint, tomato sauce, caffeine, carbonation, and citrus.

Wear loose clothes.

Eat smaller meals.

Don’t lay flat after eating. Three hours should pass before going to bed.

Elevate the head and upper body at bedtime.

Stay away from tobacco and alcohol.

Most of the time pregnant women can ease their symptoms through simple diet and lifestyle changes.

If something more is needed, heartburn medication with aluminum, calcium, or magnesium are usually safe and effective. Magnesium based antacids should be avoided during the last trimester of pregnancy due to its potential to interfere with uterine contractions during labor.

Antacids with sodium bicarbonate should be completely avoided because as it results in the potential of too much fluid in both the mother and the fetus. To be safe, however, a doctor should always be consulted before taking heart burn medicine or any other medication during pregnancy.

Physicians think it is ok to use drugs for stomach issues, acid reflux, or gastroesophageal disease. Medication for these conditions should be used sparingly and should be watched closely for side effect by the doctor. Drugs should be used only to give the patient time to heal any tissue damage caused by stomach acid refluxing into the esophagus. Natural remedies can be used at the same time drugs are used since natural remedies can also heal tissue damage in the esophagus and cure heartburn.

Most drugstore remedies are designed to alter or reduce acid strength or to stop the stomach lining from producing more acid. The stomach automatically releases acid as it strength decrease while digesting food or when over the counter products and pharmaceuticals are used.

The reduction of stomach acid can cause a major impact in your overall health. Stomach acid needs to be around 1.2 to 2.5 pH to do the hundreds of reactions that the stomach needs to do. When these reactions do not occur, a cascade of unhealthy conditions begins. You won’t see the detrimental health effect by using drugs short term but you will in long term use.

Here is one condition that happens when your stomach acid is reduced by over the counter drugstore products or by the numerous popular pharmaceutical drugs – anemia.

Anemia is a deficiency of iron in your body. Iron is the center of the hemoglobin, red blood cell, molecule. This molecule delivers oxygen to all of your cells as it travels through your blood system. The lack of iron in your body results in the lack of oxygen for your body and this condition is called anemia. When you lack iron, your body becomes weak and tired. Muscles lose strength and you can become disoriented.

In clinical tests, people that had low stomach acid were found to be anemic. In order for iron to be absorbed into your blood it needs to be in liquid form and not precipitated, a solid, and not attached to another nutrient or fiber.

There are to types of iron – heme iron and non-heme iron. Heme iron comes from meat. When your stomach is deficient in acid, high pH, meat heme iron will remain in as a liquid and not precipate, so there is no problem with meat heme iron and low stomach acid. The only problem with eating excess meat is that it is not an ideal diet for good health.

But, with non-heme iron, which comes from grains, vegetables, and fortified foods, stomach pH is important. When stomach acid is diminished, like when drugs and other drugstore products are used, iron obtained from produce and grains is also diminished. Stomach acid must separate the iron from produce and grain fibers and dissolve it so it becomes more absorbable.

If you have low iron count, are anemic, or suffer from feeling tired and in addition suffer from acid reflux or heartburn, stay away from acid reflux drugs and drugstore products. Try natural remedies to solve your heartburn symptoms.

Natural remedies maintain your natural stomach pH and allow you to digest and absorb the iron you need to produce oxygen.

You can prevent heartburn symptoms with an alkaline diet. In fact, although many conventional doctors may disagree, this is a common view shared by most naturapathic experts. With an alkaline diet, you can greatly influence the delicate acid alkaline balance of your body. Naturopathic experts say that you need to have the correct acid alkaline balance to enjoy good health and the proper functioning of the body. Heartburn symptoms come about when stomach acids back up your esophagus, creating a burning sensation in your chest area.

To know how an alkaline diet can help, you first need to understand the meanings of acidity and alkalinity. An acid is a substance that releases hydrogen into a solution and an alkali or base is one that removes hydrogen from a solution. The amount of free hydrogen is measured on a scale ranging from 1 to 14, called ph. Ph denotes the exact level of acidity or alkalinity. A ph value below 7 is said to be acidic and above 7 alkaline.

Many body functions take place at a certain acidity or alkaline level. Also, enzymes and chemical reactions in the body work best at a particular ph. A small change in ph can have a significant effect on body function. For instance, muscle contractibility reduces and hormones like adrenaline and aldosterone increased as the body becomes more acidic.

Additionally, many of your body functions take part in regulating the acid alkaline balance. These functions include respiration, excretion, digestion and cellular metabolism. Your lungs aid in regulating the acid alkaline balance by eliminating carbon dioxide from the blood. Your kidney also responds to the ph of the blood. If your blood is too acidic, the kidney excretes extra hydrogens into the urine and retains extra sodium. Phosphorus in the form of phosphate is needed for this exchange. The body obtains this phosphorus from your bones if it is not available elsewhere.

The acid alkaline balance is affected by the secretions of the stomach and the pancreas. The secretions are absorbed onto the blood stream and these have an effect on the rest of your body. To digest the foods, your stomach secretes hydrochloric acid. Your pancreas then secretes bicarbonate which neutralizes the stomach acid so that pancreatic enzymes can work properly. Anything that upsets the acid alkaline balance can have an impact on the digestive system.

The saying that you are what you eat holds true. You can prevent heartburn symptoms when you consider the nature and type of the foods that you are eating. Generally, your body becomes acidic in the process when you eat foods that acidic in nature. Examples of highly acidic foods include instant and highly processed foods such as hot dog, potato chips and cows milk, as well as red meats like beef and pork. More stomach acid needs to be produced in order to digest them. However, when this happens, acid reflux can occur because more stomach acids back up your esophagus.

If you consume more alkaline foods, then your stomach produces less acid. Highly alkaline foods tend to include more vegetables such as wheat grass, barley grass, alfalfa spouts, broccoli sprouts, kale and parsley, as well as certain nuts and oils.

To reduce heartburn symptoms, you must also give your esophagus a chance to heal. If you refrain from eating foods that are acidic, you would have lessened the impact of irritants to it. You should also avoid any trigger that relaxes the LES (lower esophageal sphincter). The LES is the muscular valve separating your esophagus and the stomach. It is when this valve relaxes, that stomach acid backs up to your esophagus, causing acid reflux symptoms.

You can also derive other benefits of eating more alkaline foods. When you have an acid overload, your body tends to get weakened and drained of energy. Unfortunately, you need this energy to help fight viruses and bacteria. An acidic body allows germs, yeast, bacteria, molds and fungi to breed and flourish. In an alkaline ecosystem, these foreign invaders do not have the slightest chance to thrive or multiply. By keeping your body alkaline, holistic experts say that that you not only can reduce heartburn symptoms but also other types of diseases and ailments.

For optimal health, naturopathic experts recommend that 7.5 ph is best for alkaline body level. You should select the right foods so that you can maintain this ideal acid alkaline balance. Additionally, to prevent heartburn symptoms, you should consume your foods in smaller portions and eat in a relaxed and stress free environment.

Pregnancy is a beautiful dream of every woman after she gets married and both the partners willingly agree to have a child. Every married female dreams to have her own child and takes pride in nurturing her unborn in her womb. A child is a symbol of love between her and her husband, where both share the responsibility to bring their child to this world. Pregnancy is a natural phenomenon and when a woman is pregnant there are certain natural indications that help her to detect the earliest signs of pregnancy. A woman experiences some internal changes in her body like a missed period or vomiting and nausea and a lot many differences and all which are caused due to hormonal imbalances, as a new guest is about to arrive in the family. Here are some early signs of pregnancy which a pregnant woman usually experiences. Some may experience all of these while others may experience a few: – Missed period: This is the most obvious sign of pregnancy. A woman who misses her period has to confirm it for an actual pregnancy by undergoing certain medical tests. Along with this she may feel some other changes too. – Spotting or mild bleeding: This sign shows that the fertilized egg has just embedded itself to the uterus wall after which a slight bleeding is seen. However after this you can get it medically confirmed if you are really pregnant. – Nausea and Morning sickness: Often pregnant ladies tend to vomit in the mornings and feel uneasy at times, this may happen for most of the pregnant ladies. A feeling of full or an empty stomach urges you to vomit out. This may also happen after a morning tea or coffee. The condition may worse and gives you a feeling of Nausea because of a stomach disorder. – Heartburn and Constipation: These are the usual signs and grow with the growth of your baby. The hormonal imbalance slows down your digestion process due to which the bile juice in your stomach rises and you may experience heartburn due to its acidic nature. As your metabolism rate also reduces you face difficulty in digestion thus leading to constipation. – Food cravings and highly developed sense of smell: You often have a strong feeling to eat something with a particular taste to the extent that you wouldn’t give up. This strong desire to eat that particular food is food craving and a pregnant woman cant do without it. Like craving for chocolates or ice-cream, even a pizza or a burger, it can be just anything. She may even response promptly to any kind of smell or aroma, either by vomiting or by going crazy for it. – A change in sense of taste: Some pregnant females often develop a metallic taste, or a sweet taste throughout their pregnancy due to this they may avoid tea, coffee and for that matter some my even switch over to different toothpaste! – More than usual urination: As the uterus grows in size, a pregnant lady often feels like going to a wash room to empty her bladder. The hormone HCG triggers frequent urination. – Irregular frame of mind: This sign is most prominent, you may feel depressed or may feel high, and its all due to your naughty baby in your womb who gives you such mood swings. These varied emotions are due to hormonal changes (just like you feel just before your periods) you may feel irritated sometimes and at other times you may be very happy for no reason at all. – Temperature rise in your body: Just when you are about to conceive or some time after conception your body temperature rises higher than normal. You feel sick at times. – Weary and lethargic: After a few days you find yourself to get tired and low very soon. You just feel like lying on your bed, your body becomes lazy and tired, you try to relax at regular intervals. Your baby wants you to rest, as later on he will be the one to trouble you the most! – Pregnancy test: A positive pregnancy test confirms your pregnancy. It is a clinical method where your urine sample is tested to confirm your pregnancy. Positive test confirms your PREGNANCY.
